Damn. This is revolutionary to me. I consider myself empathetic but never had been quite able to explain the giant chasm between me and my closest family members. This is such a helpful perspective.

The pipe being offensive made me laugh out loud. The line "Because neither can truly know what the color red looks like to the other." really stood out to me. It's such a fundamental aspect of reality, but we'll never really know how any one person truly experiences it. Two people could have the same thing happen to them and come away completely differently than someone else. That's one of the things I love about reading other people's writing, or hearing their music, or seeing their art. There's an intimacy to it, and this attempt to connect and understand, that I just love. What could really be more intimate than trying to understand someone's lived experience, and to at least try to understand as best we can? I feel like I'm rambling and might need more time to process. So, in short, thank you for this 🖤

Thank you! Yeah it was a good moment with the pipe, she was so intense about it. Cracked me up.

I agree, and the whole of art is about connection in some way, even if it’s just a human attempt to connect with whatever rubs us and bring it into form.

I love what you said about the intimacy behind experiencing art. It’s like getting a portal into a unique way of seeing. 🖤

I love that kind of humor. When I try to joke with people in person they usually think I'm serious. It's rough lol She seems really funny in that dry kind of way.

YES. A portal into a unique way of seeing. Into someone's life, their experiences, what they thought, and how it felt. I swear, the arts can be just about the most intimate thing.

Oh me too, me too. I’m too deadpan for people to always get it right away.
